January 2019 Mover of the Month: Quality Move Management of Vancouver

February 15, 2019

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that Quality Move Management of Vancouver, an Allied Van Lines agent, has been named our Mover of the Month for January 2019!

Quality Move Management's (QMM) four branches have combined to collect more than 120,500 lbs. of food since 2012 — enough to provide 100,000 meals.

One of the big keys to QMM’s success is their annual holiday food drive. In 2017, they collected more than 52,000 lbs. of food, which is an incredible accomplishment! Yet, QMM wasn’t satisfied, and they pledged that they’d be able to do even better in 2018.

From November 1-December 28, QMM’s branches in Brampton, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver collected donations of peanut butter, tuna, canned fruit/vegetables, and other non-perishable items to help provide meals for their neighbors in need. Over the course of those 2 months QMM’s clients, owner-operators, and suppliers donated more than 57,400 lbs. of food, nearly 47,000 lbs. of which was collected by the Vancouver branch!

“We at QMM make a conscious effort to give back to the communities in which we operate,” said Tim Nager, President of QMM. “We encourage volunteerism in our company and I was confident that with our company’s resources and passionate employees, we would be capable of something significant in terms of an overall contribution.”

“We strive to make a positive impact on our customers and in our communities,” said Roy Phelps, Chief Commercial Officer of QMM. “We’re humbled by the opportunity to help so many families fight food insecurity and we are fortunate to have amazing clients and vendors that really made this donation possible.”

In addition to the award, Quality Move Management will also be receiving Move For Hunger truck decals for their entire fleet.

Congratulations to Quality Move Management on this much-deserved recognition! Thank you for helping us reduce fight hunger in Vancouver and all across Canada!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
