April 6, 2018

SPRINGFIELD, VA – Interstate Moving | Relocation | Logistics, a premier moving, relocation and logistics company headquartered in Springfield, Virginia, has partnered with Move For Hunger, a national hunger relief organization. Interstate Moving | Relocation | Logistics will support Move For Hunger’s efforts to reduce food waste and fight hunger; to date, the non-profit’s network of relocation professionals has collected and delivered more than 10 million pounds of food – providing more than 8.3 million meals – to food banks and pantries across the United States and Canada.

“Interstate Moving | Relocation | Logistics is passionate about giving back to the communities they serve,” said Adam Lowy, Executive Director and Founder of Move For Hunger. “We are proud to call them our partners.”

Every month, Interstate collects food items from both customers and employees to deliver to the Capital Area Food Bank, which distributes to 129 food pantries in the DC Metro area. Since 2016, Interstate has donated over 1,000 pounds of food to families in need.

“It is difficult to imagine that hunger affects 1 in 6 people in the United States,” says J.D. Morrissette, President of Interstate’s Van Line Operations. “We are proud to partner with Move For Hunger once again to raise awareness about this problem.”

Through the generous support of partners like Interstate Moving | Relocation | Logistics, Move For Hunger can continue to help the more than 42 million Americans struggling to find their next meal. Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
