IMC Marketing Makes Waves With A Shark Week Food Drive

September 6, 2018

It comes as no surprise that many of us look forward to the summer months. The weather is warm, our favorite ice cream shops open for the season, and we are greeted with the one and only Shark Week! While most spend these 7 days watching Discovery Channel, IMC Marketing in Holmdel, NJ wanted to dive into summer by hosting a Shark Week food drive.

From July 22-29, employees were encouraged to help fight food insecurity in New Jersey by donating non-perishables, including canned tuna, salmon, and more. At the end of the week, IMC reeled in 290 pounds of food - that's the equivalent 245 meals! The food was then transported to Fulfill with the help of The Moving Guys, a valued member of the Move For Hunger network who volunteered their time to assist.

Just over 100,000 people in Monmouth and Ocean Counties are food insecure, including 1 in 8 children. Thank you so much to IMC Holmdel and The Moving Guys for their fin-tastic effort in the fight against hunger right in our home state!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
