H.B. Fuller Collects Nearly 500 LBS. of Donations During Month-Long Food Drive

April 2, 2018

Our friends at H.B. Fuller are back at it again! The leading global adhesives company organized another food drive from February 1-March 16. This event was part of their annual Make a Difference Project. Employees were encouraged to provide non-perishable items to help provide meals to their neighbors in need.

"Remember how good it felt when we were recognized for such a successful drive last fall?" asked John Bevacqua, H.B. Fuller’s Warehouse Manager. "Let’s do our best to helping the Edison community."

This past fall, the company held a food drive that brought in 320 lbs. of food. This time around, however, the company worked alongside their business partners, Select Enterprises and Express Employment Professionals. They also allowed employees to make cash donations which were used to buy more non-perishable food. Those changes made a huge difference, as nearly 500 lbs. of food was collected this time around, enough to provide more than 400 meals!

Once again, Paramount Transportation Systems generously provided the donation boxes for the drive! A total of 10 boxes were completely filled with non-perishables and delivered to the Hands of Hope Pantry.

More than 970,000 people in New Jersey are food insecure, including 1 in 7 children. Thank you to H.B. Fuller, Paramount Transportation Systems, and everyone who made a donation! Your generosity will truly make a positive impact in the local community!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
