Fidelity Residential Solutions Hosts Fall Food Drive at 3 Locations Nationwide

February 7, 2018

Fidelity Residential Solutions hosted a fall food drive at 3 branches nationwide from November 15-December 15. The offices in Annapolis (MD), Eden Prairie (MN), and Troy (MI) combined to collect a grand total of 1,890 lbs. of food, which is enough to provide 1,575 meals for people struggling with food insecurity in those communities.

The FRS branch in Annapolis collected 585 lbs. of food, which is the equivalent of 490 meals. In Maryland, nearly 700,000 people, including 1 in 6 children, face food insecurity. Ace Relocation Systems of Washington, D.C./Baltimore, an Atlas Van Lines agent, volunteered to deliver the donations to Capital Area Food Bank, which supports 444 different community organizations within DC, MD, and VA.

In Troy, MI, the branch donated 220 lbs. of food, which equates to 180 meals! In Michigan, nearly 1.5 million people, including 1 in 6 children, face food insecurity. Corrigan Moving Systems of Auburn Hills delivered all of the donations to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.

The branch in Eden Prairie made the biggest impact. Their staff donated 1,085 lbs. of food, which will provide 900 meals for their neighbors need! In Minnesota, more than 540,000 people are food insecure, including 1 in 7 children. Right Choice Movers transported the donations from the branch to the Second Harvest Heartland West.

Thank you to Fidelity Residential Solutions, Ace Relocation Systems, Corrigan Moving Systems, Right Choice Movers, and everyone who made a donation drive for taking action and making a difference!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
