Eze Fitness Lifts Up their Community By Hosting Two Thanksgiving Food Drives

December 6, 2018

We all know that fitting a workout into every day life can sometimes be a hassle. We may be too busy, have had a long day at work, or (let's be honest) we simply don't feel like driving to the gym. Despite the trials that we need overcome to stay in shape, our friends at Eze Fitness found the perfect way to not only motivate their members to come to class, but also give back to the community. How? By hosting not one, but two Thanksgiving food drives!

Members of Eze Fitness in both Brick and Neptune, NJ were encouraged to bring in nonperishable food items for the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. For every 5 cans they donated, they were given a raffle ticket for a chance a free month of classes. Members were also encouraged to bring a guest for unlimited classes in exchange for donations. The food drive was a great success, with both locations collecting more than 1,000 pounds of food each! The grand total of 2,200 pounds was enough to provide 1,830 Thanksgiving meals for New Jersey families in need.

With the help of Lowy's Moving Service, our valued partner and a Wheaton Van Lines agent, the donations will be delivered to Fulfill. With more than 108,000 people struggling with food insecurity in Monmouth and Ocean county, including 1 in 8 children, the food drive is will help make a difference for those in need. Thanks so much to Eze Fitness for taking the time to give back to your community and help families enjoy a holiday meal with their loved ones. Let's work together to fight hunger.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
