DN Van Lines Wraps Truck to Raise Awareness About Hunger & Food Waste

October 10, 2019

MARLBOROUGH, MA – DN Van Lines has wrapped one of its moving trucks to encourage the local community to donate food when they move. More than 616,000 people in Massachusetts are food insecure, including 1 in 9 children. As a proud partner of Move For Hunger, a national non-profit organization, DN Van Lines offers to pick up any unopened, non-perishable food items from its customers, year-round, to distribute to the local food pantry.

“DN Van Lines has delivered nearly 1,400 lbs. of food to the Hudson Community Food Pantry and is a longtime supporter of our organization,” says Adam Lowy, Executive Director of Move For Hunger. “This truck will certainly help to create awareness about hunger in the community and will also serve as a call to action for people who want to help.”

“We are proud to be a partner of Move For Hunger in both Massachusetts and Florida,” says Oded Carmi President of DN Van Lines. “Food insecurity is not a topic that often is widely discussed. It is important to play a role in raising awareness about hunger & food waste among the people and corporations we service. This is why we thought it was such a good idea to brand one of trucks in support of the charity. We have found that most people are willing to get behind a good cause once it is brought to their attention.”

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
