DN Van Lines Collects 850 LBS. of Food!

February 3, 2020

DN Van Lines is a longtime supporter of Move For Hunger. In their continuous effort to help fight hunger, they hosted a Season of Giving Food Drive fromDecember 2-13 at their offices in Marlborough, MA. Their crew was able to collect 850 pounds of food, which will provide more than 700 meals to their neighbors in need! The DN Vans Lines team personally delivered the non-perishables to the Hudson Community Food Pantry.

Since becoming a partner in 2012, DN Van Lines has delivered thousands of pounds of food to their local food banks & pantries. Earlier this year, they also wrapped one of their moving trucks to encourage the local community to donate food when they move. The trucks helped create awareness about hunger in the region, and provided residents with a simple, effective call to action.

More than 616,000 people in Massachusetts are food insecure, including 1 in 9 children. Thank you DN Van Lines for hosting another successful food drive!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
