Crown Relocations Raises Nearly $21,000 at the 2nd Annual New Jersey Truck Pull

July 31, 2019

The competition at the Second Annual New Jersey Truck Pull, hosted by Crown Relocations, was almost as hot as the temperature!

Crown Relocations had two teams competing for this year's coveted Truck Pull Championship. There was some speculation among the crowd about whether the teams had been sneaking into the lot after hours to practice truck NewJerseyCrownTruckPull2019-(127)-web.jpgpulling techniques, because both squads showed up ready to compete for office bragging rights and trophy case glory. Bob Leotti's team blazed out of the gate with a blistering 0:38 run which was the result of the team's coordinated backwards pull motion into a simultaneous full-team turn to a frontwards run after the truck started to pick up momentum. With a full 18-second lead over the next closest team, beating Bob's team seemed insurmountable. The second Crown team, however, having learned from Bob's bunch, adjusted their approach and managed to complete their second run in just 0:36 to take home the win! Time will tell if any of them will mysteriously get assigned to the graveyard shift for beating the boss.

All differences were set aside, though, as members from both of Crown's team came together to help the Move For Hunger team complete their second run. Depleted from pulling the truck for 1:22 during their first run and then being down a team member on their second attempt, the Move For Hunger team was unable to get the truck to budge until helping hands from Crown came out on the course to get them going.

If nothing else, this was a physical reminder of the established tradition of Crown Relocations being the extra muscle that Move For Hunger has counted on over the past 10 years. When all was said and done, Crown Relocations had raised $20,900 to support our hunger relief and food rescue programs, which is nearly 2x the total from last year. Once again, Crown Relocations  exceeded our expectations.

None of it would have been possible without the support of our sponsors, especially Victory Packaging, AVE, GDK Logistics, International Logistic Services, NOMAD Temporary Housing, Relocation Movers' Services, ReloTrans Auto Relocation, Rose Containerline, and Wheaton Worldwide Moving. But, most of all, thank you to Bob Leotti and everyone at Crown Relocations for everything you have done to support Move For Hunger. There's no question that your partnership has been instrumental to our growth as an organization. Thank you for helping us deliver more than 15 million pounds of food nationwide!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
