Crest on Providence Apartments Donate 85 LBS. of Food

June 2, 2020

Crest on Providence Apartments, a Greystar property in Charlotte, NC, recently donated 10 bags of food to support our COVID-19 relief campaign!

As a member of our Multi-Family Apartment Program, residents at Crest on Providence Apartments all have the opportunity to donate their food when they move. When a resident gives notice that they will be moving out, the property management team at Crest on Providence provides them with a recyclable food collection bag. The residents are encouraged to place any unopened, non-perishable food that they would like to donate into the bag and leave it in the unit before they go. It's a simple, safe, and sustainable way to reduce food waste and fight hunger.

GentleGiantMovingCompany_Logo-500x241.pngOur partners from Gentle Giant Moving Company in Charlotte volunteered to pick up the bags and delivered them all to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. A grand total of 85 lbs. of food was donated, which will provide 70 meals to families, children, seniors, and vulnerable communities during the COVID-19 crisis.

Food banks all across the country are facing an unprecedented demand right now. Thank you so much to the staff & residents at Crest on Providence Apartments, and to Robert Farnum and the crew at Gentle Giant Moving Company, for doing your part to support your community during these difficult times!

The COVID-19 Pandemic has left a massive economic impact and has drastically increased the need for emergency food assistance nationwide. Move For Hunger is actively searching for ways to meet the demand, but we're going to need your help.

If you can, please consider making a donation to Move For Hunger. With your support, we'll be able to rapidly respond and mobilize our network in communities across the United States and Canada.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
