White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery Mobilizes Treasure Coast Businesses to Fight Summer Hunger in Florida

July 17, 2017

Because hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation, White Glove Moving & Storage & Delivery knew that the month of June was a better time than ever to host a food drive. For the fifth year in a row, White Glove helped coordinate food drives at 45 locations along Florida's Treasure Coast from May 30-June 12.

Despite the busy summer moving season, White Glove Moving, Storage, & Delivery exceeded every expectation by donating more than 3,200 pounds of food - nearly 2,700 meals - to the Treasure Coast Food Bank. That's double what they collected during last year's food drive and will help to provide much-needed support to the nearly 100,000 people, including 1 in 5 children, who face hunger in the area that the TC Food Bank serves.

"Getting the whole business and networking community together is so rewarding," said White Glove's Vice President of Marketing, Anna Valencia Tillery. "White Glove Moving is proud to be the facilitator to get all the heavy lifting done."

Since 2013, more than 30,000 lbs. of food have been collected by White Glove Moving, Storage, & Delivery and their partners in the community. Thank you to everyone who participated for supporting your neighbors in need during the hungriest time of year!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
