Vibe Apartments is Move For Hunger’s November Community of the Month!

December 20, 2023

We're thrilled to announce Vibe Apartments as our November Community of the Month! Managed by Goodman Real Estate and located in Kent, Washington, Vibe Apartments has been a dedicated partner of Move For Hunger for three incredible years.

Through their commitment to fighting hunger, Vibe Apartments has collected close to 2,000 pounds of food – the equivalent of 1,600 meals for families in need! Their dedication extends beyond mere collection; they've actively hosted food drives, participated in pickups in partnership with CORT Seattle, and demonstrated strong engagement with the Washington Multi-Family Housing Association.

"We partner with Move for Hunger because we believe that it is a great way to give back to those less fortunate than many others," says Cindy Johnson, Community Manager at Vibe Apartments.

"It is especially important to help people less fortunate than ourselves right now because of the rising prices of groceries, gas, and many other living expenses."

"It is especially important to help people less fortunate than ourselves right now because of the rising prices of groceries, gas, and many other living expenses."

In Kent, WA, the cost of living is 4% higher than the state average and 20% higher than the national average. Additionally, housing in Kent is 47% more expensive than the U.S average.

Cindy continues, "There are a lot of families that are living from paycheck to paycheck, and sometimes a free bag of groceries is just what the family needs to help them make it through the week. We are happy and proud to be part of these little contributions that mean so much to these families."

Vibe Apartments' dedication to fighting hunger serves as an inspiration for us all. Since joining the network in 2020, they’ve donated nearly 2,250 lbs of donations from food drives, providing more than 1,850 meals to local communities.

Thank you, Vibe Apartments, for your continued support! You can join the fight against hunger by:

Joining our multifamily network: Connect with other property managers and residents to create a network of support with Move For Hunger.

Hosting your own food drive: Get your community involved and collect food donations for local families in need.

Donate to our Season of Giving Campaign: Donate through the end of year & your gift will be MATCHED by KPMG and will help provide meals to communities in need. Your contribution, regardless of size, can make a significant difference in the lives of those facing hunger.

Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient community where everyone has access to nutritious food.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
