Supermove Joins the Fight Against Hunger Through Partnership with Move For Hunger

June 1, 2023

Supermove, a purpose-built software for movers, and Move For Hunger, a national hunger relief non-profit organization, have announced a new partnership that will fight hunger and reduce food waste nationwide!

This partnership will provide nearly 19,000 meals to communities in need. As partners, Supermove will support Move For Hunger’s food rescue programs and will encourage their network to integrate the Move For Hunger model into their relocation policies. It also provides the opportunity to continue to expand the Move For Hunger network.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Move For Hunger,” said Wonjun Jeong, CEO of Supermove.

“Supermove is on a mission to change the way the world moves, and Move For Hunger’s commitment to sustainability and food security represents a true values alignment for us. Together, we can make a meaningful impact in our communities and create a better future for those in need.”

Move For Hunger was founded in 2009 by Adam Lowy and now has built out an elaborate network of supporters. It includes over 1,100 moving companies, including many of the world’s leading relocation management companies, and more than 3,000 multifamily apartment communities. Move For Hunger has provided over 32 million pounds of food, equaling more than 28 million meals, to those in need.

“More than 34 million Americans are facing hunger, but we are wasting 40% of the food in the United States every year,” said Adam Lowy, Move For Hunger’s Executive Director/Founder. “With Supermove’s support, we can reach more people, rescue more food, and put more meals on the table for people who are struggling to make ends meet.”

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
