Quick and Careful Moving Fills a Truck with 450 LBS. of Food

July 24, 2017

The month of May is known for blooming flowers and no more April showers, however, did you know that May is also National Moving Month? As the end of the school year rolls around, the month of May marks the beginning of the busy summer moving season. Amidst the chaos of the busy season, Quick and Careful Moving took the time to support a cause that needs more attention than ever during the summer months.

Quick and Careful Moving partnered with Brookside Elementary School in Grand Rapids, Michigan to host a “Fill-a-Truck” food drive from May 13-22. Students, parents, teachers, and members of the local community all came together in order to “fill a truck” parked outside of the school with non-perishable food items. Together, they collected 450 pounds of food– or 375 meals–for those battling food insecurity in the Grand Rapids community. Quick & Careful Moving personally delivered all of the donations to Kids Food Basket.

In addition to the truck, Quick & Easy Moving also provided fun festivities for children, including games, activities, ice cream, and even appearances from a few superheroes!

Over 1 million people, including 1 in 5 children, in Michigan battle food insecurity every day. Thank you to our friends at Quick & Careful Moving and Brookside Elementary School for joining the fight to end hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
