The Place At Forest Ridge donates over 1,000 meals during Spring Into Action Food Drive, making them Community of the Month

May 12, 2022

Move For Hunger’s April Community of the Month award goes to The Place at Forest Ridge, an MC Companies property. This award is designated for multifamily properties that have done exceptional work in helping us eliminate hunger.

Located in Arizona, The Place At Forest Ridge, collected 542 lbs, equalling over 450 meals, during their Spring Into Action Food Drive. The donated food benefits the Flagstaff Family Food Center.

The MC Companies Spring into Action Food Drive occurred in 24 locations across the southwest, where they made a collective donation of over 5,900 lbs, equalling nearly 5,000 meals to fight hunger.

Since joining the Move For Hunger network in 2019, The Place at Forest Ridge has collected over 1,400 lbs (1,166 meals) that were used to help multiple families encountering food insecurity.

“Chances are, you know someone that has been impacted by hunger and needed assistance. Working together with Move For Hunger helps us make even more of a positive impact,” said Ciara Hufford, Property Director. “We see first-hand the positive impact the program has on our own community. It is amazing to see how many meals and thus how many families we have been able to help!”

Thanks to The Place at Forest Ridge for their efforts in the MC Companies Spring Into Action Food Drive for providing over 450 meals to food-insecure individuals. We are extremely thankful since in Arizona about 900,000 people are food insecure. Every donation counts!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
