Outlook on Pilot Butte donates more than 400 meals in January, making them Community of the Month

February 10, 2022

Move For Hunger understands how vital multifamily properties are to our mission of helping us end hunger, so we choose one community that has done an outstanding job to award as Community of the Month. For January, that community is the Outlook on Pilot Butte.

Located in Bend, Oregon, a small city nestled along the Deschutes River and surrounded by the Cascade Mountains, the Security Properties Residential property donated 500lbs of food to the St. Vincent De Paul Food Bank. This will provide over 400 meals to local food insecure families and individuals.

“For the past two years, COVID-19 has financially effected many people in our community and we feel that it’s important to help any way we can,” said Sarah Butte, Property Manager with the Outlook on Pilot Butte. “Our residents here at Outlook at Pilot Butte went above and beyond, and surpassed our expectations for food donations in December.”

This was the Outlook on Pilot Butte’s first donation through Move For Hunger, and we’re excited to see how much bigger their impact will be in 2022! Security Properties Residential, however, has been part of our network for the past four years and has over 80 properties as part of the multifamily network.

With nearly 500,000 people facing hunger in Oregon, with 1 in 7 children not knowing where their next meal will come from, every donation is needed! Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
