October 2020 Mover of the Month: Two Men & a Truck - Boston

November 13, 2020

Each month we highlight one of the amazing movers in our network for the work they’ve done in the local community. We’re very happy to announce that Two Men and a Truck - Boston as our October Mover of the Month

Since 2015, Two Men and a Truck - Boston have helped fight the hunger crisis in eastern Massachusetts. They’ve helped transport countless pickups and have moved over 4,000 lbs during that time. Last month, they assisted in 4 different pickups connected to The Dolben Company Hunger Action Month Food Drive. Two Men and a Truck delivered the food to the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Family Assistance Center totaling 300 lbs of food (250 meals).

Giving back to our communities is in our DNA,” said Charlene Bush, Marketing Director of Two Men and a Truck. “It is what we were founded on and is one of our Core Values!  Giving back in these times is especially important because people need hope and if there is anything we can do to raise someone’s spirits, we are all in!”

It’s even more true now when the pandemic has only made the hunger crisis worse. Since March the number of Americans considered food insecure went from 37 million to 54 million. In Massachusetts, 9% of people are food insecure including 1 in 9 children, and this is one of the better states relative to the rest of the country.

When asked about the impact of being a part of Move For Hunger, Charlene said, “Our moving professionals love being a part of giving back. It raises our team’s spirits so it is a win-win.  Move for Hunger is a great organization becomes they help people with basic needs which is critical right now.  We are proud to support their efforts.”

Thank you, Two Men and a Truck - Boston for all that you do. Congrats on being the Mover of the Month!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
