No Tricks Here! Apex Moving & Storage Named October's Mover of the Month

November 10, 2022

Each month, Move For Hunger highlights a moving company that has gone above and beyond with their work to fight against hunger. For October, we’re celebrating Apex Moving & Storage and their commitment to fighting hunger!

Apex Moving & Storage, a National Van Lines agent, is a family owned and operating moving company based in Washington state. They became part of the Move For Hunger network and have since collected and transported over 680,000 lbs of donations, equalling more than 570,000 meals, to food banks and pantries.

More recently, Apex Moving & Storage helped transport more than 1,400 lbs of donations from 10 multifamily properties for their Hunger Action Month food drives in September. This will provide over 1,200 meals to communities in need in Washington.

“Apex has a long-standing history with Move For Hunger. I’d like to recognize Dean Savage, the previous owner, for his continued support of the cause,” said Dionne Alston, Operations Manager. “He volunteers his time and driving skills in one of our trucks at a local church once a month bringing food to and from a program they run.”

“His passion has carried over to those of us that worked with him. We are aware of how important it is for everyone in a community to contribute in whatever way they can to ensure the health and well-being of all its members. We truly enjoy being able to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. Thank you for the opportunity to do just that.”

We are so thankful for Apex Moving and Storage and their dedication to fighting hunger, especially since over 400,000 people are food insecure in Washington state. Congratulations on being named Mover of the Month for October!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
