The MÜV Medical Cannabis Dispensaries donate 12,500 meals during their Thanksgiving Food Drives

January 26, 2022

This past November, MÜV Medical Cannabis Dispensaries were on fire during their first-ever food drive through Move For Hunger. In nearly 40 locations throughout Florida, they collaboratively collected more than 15,000lbs of food for food-insecure communities. That’s the equivalent of 12,500 meals this holiday season.

MÜV Medical Cannabis Dispensaries Thanksgiving Food Drive 2021 - Sebastian3.JPGTaking the first place in the largest amount of donations is the Jacksonville location, collecting over 1,500lbs of donations, equalling more than 1,200 meals! Helping Hands Express Moving & Storage helped transport the donations. The runner-up was the North Port location, about an hour outside of Tampa, collecting over 1,000lbs, equalling more than 800 meals. Each location did a fantastic job collecting donations to provide hearty meals to individuals and families that wouldn’t have otherwise throughout the holidays.

“The USDA estimates 30-40% of the country’s food supply is wasted annually, underscoring the severity of this critical issue in our society," said Zack Swan, National Director of Retail Marketing of Verano. "MÜV™ by Verano™ is honored to collaborate with and support Move for Hunger in their innovative mission to combat food waste. Our donation of 16,000 pounds would not have been possible without their help, or the generosity of Florida’s patients. Thank you, Move for Hunger, and thank you, MÜVers.”

In Florida, more than 2,500,000 people are food insecure, with 1 in 6 children facing hunger. With the rising rate of food insecurity in the United States, we’re beyond thankful for every effort to end hunger.

For this being MÜV Medical Cannabis Dispensaries’ first event with Move For Hunger, we have to send an especially large congratulations on the success of this food drive. Thank you so much for all your hard work!

We’d also like to extend a thank you to the following movers for helping transport donations from the office locations: Central Moving & Storage, an agent for Wheaton, Joe Bonnie & Son Moving & Storage, a National Van Lines agent, White Glove Moving Storage & Delivery, an agent for Bekins, and Atlantic Relocation Systems - Tampa.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
