Moving Solutions knocks it out of the park, transporting nearly 22,000 meals to End 68 Hours of Hunger

February 3, 2022

Moving Solutions Food Transport for End 68 Hours of Hunger - 12-17-2021-1.JPGMove For Hunger was founded with the idea that the moving and relocation industry could pitch in and help in the fight against hunger throughout the United States and Canada.

This December, Moving Solutions, Inc did a fantastic job doing just that! They volunteered to transport over 26,300 lbs of donations to the End 68 Hours of Hunger Food Bank in Ohio. That means nearly 22,000 meals were provided to food-insecure families and individuals this holiday season.

Moving Solutions, an agent with northAmerican Van Lines, has been working with Move For Hunger since 2013. In 2021 alone, they helped transport over 38,000 lbs, equalling more than 31,000 meals, to food banks in Ohio.

Every donation counts, considering over 1.4 million people throughout Ohio are food insecure. Additionally, 1 in 6 children don’t know where their next meal will come from - yet 35% of food produced in the United States is lost or wasted.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
