Move For Hunger Recognized for Top Supply Chain Project Award of 2025

June 20, 2025

Move For Hunger is proud to announce that we are recognized by Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Food Logistics as one of the winners of this year’s Top Supply Chain Projects Award. This prestigious honor highlights innovative projects that improve and streamline supply chain operations, and our Charity Freight Network stood out for doing just that, with a purpose-driven twist.

Join the Movement. Help us turn surplus into support,
become a Charity Freight partner today.

The Top Supply Chain Projects Award celebrates case study-style initiatives that have successfully automated, optimized, or modernized supply chains across industries. What makes this recognition even more meaningful is that our project doesn’t just make the supply chain more efficient - it makes it more equitable, sustainable, and compassionate.

That’s why it’s important to celebrate these projects - and the partnerships behind them.

What Is the Charity Freight Network?

At its heart, the Charity Freight Network is a national coalition between logistics providers, freight companies, and transportation professionals dedicated to reducing food waste and fighting hunger. This initiative connects excess food, everything from aging inventory to overstock donations, with nonprofits, food banks, and communities in need.

In 2024, this network moved over 7 million pounds of food, providing the equivalent of 5.8 million meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity across the United States and Canada. Instead of seeing surplus food as a liability or trash, we’re helping partners see it as a lifeline by providing them with a clear, sustainable path to donate.

When shippers and carriers face the difficult decision of what to do with aging or excess food, our team and network members step in to offer a responsible and rewarding alternative. We’re creating new norms in the logistics world, and our partners are rising to the challenge.

Behind the Numbers: Impactful Transports Across North America

The Charity Freight Network has grown from just four founding partners to 10 dedicated transportation members, each committed to making food rescue a core part of their business. And the impact has been nothing short of inspiring. Here are a few standout stories from this past year:

  • Liquid Death x RhodeSense: A large-scale donation of canned water was rerouted from disposal to delivery, quenching thirsts and reducing waste in one impactful move.

  • McClays & the Girl Scouts: When the Girl Scouts had an overstock of cookies, McClays helped ensure the sweet treats made it to families who might not otherwise get a dessert.

  • Operation Fruit Cup (Del Monte Donations): Several shipments of fruit cups and shelf-stable produce were saved and rerouted to food banks.

  • “Cabbage, Potatoes, and Sweet Potatoes, OH MY!” with United Transportation: A massive haul of fresh vegetables was rescued and delivered, proving that even perishable produce has a place in the fight against hunger.

  • Nutella Donation with VAKO: A unique and generous donation of everyone’s favorite hazelnut spread was saved from destruction and delivered with care.

Each of these transports not only saved high-quality food from going to waste but also demonstrated what’s possible when we align logistics with purpose.

Why This Award Matters

The supply chain industry has a massive influence on how products, especially perishable goods, are handled, shipped, and ultimately consumed or discarded. Yet, all too often, the default solution for surplus food is to rot in landfills. The Charity Freight Network is rewriting that script.

By empowering companies with the tools, resources, and transportation infrastructure to donate we’re proving that food rescue isn’t just good for the planet, it’s good for business, communities, and corporate social responsibility. This award validates that mission and highlights the role the logistics sector can play in building a better food system.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate this recognition, we’re also looking forward. Move For Hunger is actively expanding the Charity Freight Network and inviting new members from across the transportation, logistics, and supply chain sectors to join the movement. Together, we can prevent millions of pounds of food from ending up in landfills and make sure it lands on tables instead.

“When you participate in a partnership like this, you can see the light in their eyes pop because they are doing something they care about. Not something we’re forcing them to care about,” said Mark LaBrosse, Owner & Managing Partner, McClay's Logistics. “This is something that’s been beneficial overall because when folks around you are happy and they’re having conversations that make a difference, it leads to better results ultimately.”

The future of food rescue will be powered by partnership, and we’re just getting started!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
