Mountain States Moving and Storage is awarded November’s Mover of the Month!

December 8, 2021

Every month, Move For Hunger highlights a moving company that stands out for their efforts in the fight against hunger as the Mover of the Month. This November, we’re recognizing Mountain States Moving and Storage for their exceptional efforts with transporting food donations!

Mountain States Moving and Storage is a family-founded and family-run moving business located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Since joining the mover network 9 years ago, they have transported over 13,000lbs of food, supplying over 11,000 meals to those in need.

“Partnering with Move for Hunger allows us to tell all of our customers about it and that in turn helps in our state as well as surrounding states fight hunger,” said Sarah Dixon from Mountain States Moving and Storage. “Right now especially there are so many people trying to make ends meet, to make every penny count. Giving time and supplies to our food banks helps take one load off the families that are trying to make it through. Even if we help just one family make it another few months, that makes it worth it!”

Mountain States Moving and Storage has been exceptionally helpful with our multi-family donation transports. With almost 2,500 multi-family properties committed to fighting hunger and reducing food waste in the Move For Hunger network, we need all the help we can get! In 2021 alone, they’ve picked up food at least 30 times from various multi-family properties.

In Utah, over 350,000 people and 1 in 7 children face food insecurity. With help from our multi-family properties and moving partners, like Mountain States Moving and Storage, we can fight food insecurity one meal at a time!

We thank Mountain States Moving and Storage for their support and congratulate them on being named as November’s Mover of the Month! If you’re interested in joining the Move For Hunger network, make sure to check out our Multi-Family and Mover sign up pages!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
