Momentum Technology Sponsors Can-Tastic ArCANtecture Event in New Jersey

August 29, 2022

On August 17th, Move For Hunger held an ArCANtecture event at Bell Works in Holmdel, New Jersey, sponsored by Momentum Technology. The event was free to the Bell Works public who wanted to participate, and the non-perishable items used for the ArCANtecture event were donated to the Fulfill Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

ArCANtecture is a signature team-building event hosted by Move For Hunger, where the primary goal is to create structures out of cans. These structures are then judged based on creativity, the amount of food used, and the stability of the design. The winning team wins an award and secures bragging rights for the rest of the year!

Congrats to our top three winning teams:

The Winners of Best Architects -  Alexander (8) and Nicholas (5) with "Castle"
The Winners of Most Creative - The Fortis Agency Team with "Yurt'
The Winners of Best Overall - The LTA Apparel Team with "Lighthouse"

Huge thanks to Momentum Technology for sponsoring the event, as well as Lowy’s Moving for transporting the donations. Shout outs to Fortis Agency, LTA Apparel Team, Bell Works and Bell Works staff, Booskerdoo, for donating ten $10 gift cards for prizes, and ShopRite of Hazlet (specifically Managers Steve Billie, Bill Miranda, Robert Kryston and team), for making this a fantastic event!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
