January 18, 2023

Each month, Move For Hunger chooses a community that displays a dedication to ending hunger. This December, is awarded Community of the Month!

Located in Rocklin, California, The Meridian at Stanford Ranch is an FPI Management property that participated in FPI Management’s Advent Food Drive throughout December.

The Meridian at Stanford Ranch collected over 940lbs of donations, providing over 780 meals to local communities. "There is an intrinsic value to kindness; helping others is a way to bring kindness to not just our rental community, but to the bigger community we live in,” said Kelley Borden, Community Director. “Move for Hunger, FPI Management, and Team Tomanek give us avenues to create kindness, to truly help those in need in our own neighborhoods, and to make a difference for the better."

The Meridian at Stanford Ranch has been part of the Move For Hunger network in 2018, and has helped provide more than 8,700 meals to food insecure communities in California. In 2021, they partnered with FPI Management, Chargie, Move For Hunger, and CORT Furniture Rental to host a Trick or Can Nissan Leaf Giveaway to one of their residents to give back to those in need!

In California alone, more than 3.5 million people are food insecure, with over 1.1 million children not knowing where their next meal will come from. We’re beyond grateful for every community that has joined us in the fight against hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
