Meet Kramer, Manager of Food Recovery Programs at Move For Hunger.

February 25, 2024

Welcome to our Meet the Team series, where we’ll be introducing the Move For Hunger Staff 1 blog and 9 questions at a time. We hope you enjoy getting to know our team members as much as we enjoy working with them!

Kicking off the new year, we would like to introduce you to Kramer Stuth, our Food Recovery Program Manager at Move For Hunger! His nonprofit background and desire to focus on hunger relief led him to joining the Move For Hunger team this January.

What Do You Do At Move For Hunger?

Manager of Food Recovery Programs

Why did you join Move For Hunger?

After leaving another non profit organization, I knew I wanted to stay in the nonprofit sector focusing on hunger relief. I was presented with this opportunity with a former colleague and when doing more research about Move For Hunger, I felt like this company was the right fit for me.

What do you like about working at Move For Hunger?

I love being able to work remote. That is something I really enjoy. Having the flexibility to be there for my family and for work is amazing. I also love making connections to our Food Donors, Food Banks/Pantries, Gleaning Organizations, etc. It is amazing to see what people can do together to solve a very prevalent problem.

What’s something that you’re working on right now that you’re excited about?

I am very excited about working with my team on figuring out the best way to manage our accounts across the network. Being able to streamline that process to make the donation and transportation process easier is something that I am very excited about.

Who has influenced you the most?

A combination of my wife Melissa and daughter Scarlett. First, my wife made me become a better version of myself. Second, my 19 month old daughter. Knowing that I have to show up everyday to be the best father/husband not only helps me at home, but also with my work everyday.

What food could you eat every day and never get tired of?

Pizza. I can never get tired of eating pizza. Deep Dish, Thin Crust, NY Style, Detroit, etc.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

You can never learn if you never fail. Also, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” - Wayne Gretzkey  - Michael Scott. (Big The Office Fan.)

What’s your favorite movie?

Coach Carter. I am a big sports fan, and this movie just hits home for me.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
