Meet Dana Paslowski, Art Director at Move For Hunger

November 29, 2023

Welcome to our Meet the Team series, where we’ll be introducing the Move For Hunger Staff 1 blog and 9 questions at a time. We hope you enjoy getting to know our team members as much as we enjoy working with them!

We’re happy to introduce our Art Director, Dana Paslowski. In this installment of 'Meet the Team', we'll delve into the heart of Dana's motivation, exploring her work at Move For Hunger while embracing motherhood, and her passion for creating a meaningful impact on the world.

What Do You Do At Move For Hunger?

Art Director. I work on the Marketing Team overseeing the brand while working on various graphic design projects for print & digital.

Why did you join Move For Hunger?

I joined Move For Hunger as an intern in 2013. I joined to gain real life experience as a graphic designer along with wanting to give back to an organization. Philanthropy has always been important to me which is why I chose a non-profit to work with.

What do you like about working at Move For Hunger?

After working at Move For Hunger for over 10 years, I can honestly say that I love working with a team that fosters collaboration & innovation. Move For Hunger's focus on finding innovative ways to address both hunger and food waste is very fulfilling. On top of that, I find that working with colleagues who are all passionate about the cause to be very inspiring.

What’s something that you’re working on right now that you’re excited about?

I'm thrilled about introducing CANVA at Move For Hunger, both for internal and external use. Providing our team and external network with the versatility of a toolkit for fundraisers and food drives will enhance their ability to promote their efforts effectively.

Who has influenced you the most?

Since becoming a mother in February 2023, my own mom has become the most influential person in my life. While I've always admired her, experiencing motherhood myself has revealed the incredible superpowers she possesses!

What food could you eat every day and never get tired of?

Any form of asian noodles- Lo Mein, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Udon, the list goes on!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

Be here now (I learned this after becoming a mother and realizing how important life is to be present).

What’s your favorite movie?

I’m not a big movie person - I know, I know (crazy!) But I did really enjoy Across the Universe because I love The Beatles!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
