M. Dyer Global Provides over 660 meals to those in need, naming them August’s Mover of the Month!

September 15, 2022

Each month, Move For Hunger awards and highlights our moving companies that have gone above and beyond with their work to fight against hunger! Over the past year, Move For Hunger has taken leaps in reducing global food waste by collaborating directly with farms to transport fresh foods that otherwise may have been wasted, to food banks to be used and distributed to families in need.

For the month of August, we are proud to congratulate M. Dyer Global as our Mover of the Month for August! Throughout this summer, M. Dyer Global has collected nearly 800 lbs of food while helping families move out of their homes - that’s over 665 meals.

When Move for Hunger first began in 2009, this was the exact concept it was built on by donating food when people move, everyone could fight hunger, even one move at a time. 36 million people moved in 2021. If everyone donated 1 can, we could feed 30 million people.

Over the years, Move For Hunger has been able to expand its operations to include large-scale food rescue, cold storage installation, and multifamily home donations. However, it would have been impossible to get to this point without the work of our partners, like M. Dyer Global, assisting in making that goal a reality.

Based in Hawaii, M. Dyer Global hopes to make an impact in helping combat food insecurity in their community. “It was saddening to see so many iconic restaurants and businesses close down during the pandemic and luckily, like the rest of us in the moving industry, we're considered an essential business that we felt blessed to be able to keep our doors open. With this in mind, we felt the importance of giving back to our community in the most essential way possible; with food.  Our culture celebrates life around food, and we'd like to give back where we can,” said Natassha Pablo, HR & Communications Manager.

With over 136,000 Hawaiians food secure, including 1 in 6 children, we appreciate all of the amazing work being done by M. Dyer Global for their community.

Since partnering with us in 2013, M. Dyer Global has transported over 5,000 lbs - equivalent to about 4,400 meals. “M. Dyer Global has been in business for over 50 years, and even though our partnership started in 2013, we have always felt that our involvement in the community is important for our employees, our business, and for the people of Hawaii,” Pablo said. “We're looking forward to working with the Hawaii Food Bank, and are excited to build opportunities in the future that will make an impact on Hawaii's way of life.”

Congratulations to M. Dyer Global on being named August 2022’s Mover of the Month! We thank you so much for your years of commitment and support in fighting hunger! If you are a mover and would like to make a difference in the communities you serve, consider joining the Move For Hunger network!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
