Long-Time Partner MiniMoves - Chicago is September’s Mover of the Month!

October 15, 2022

Each month, Move For Hunger awards and highlights our moving companies that have gone above and beyond with their work to fight against hunger! This month, we wanted to take this opportunity to award one of our partners that has been working with us for more than eight years, still going strong and helping us fight hunger.

For the month of September, we are proud to congratulate MiniMoves - Chicago, a MiniMoves Van Line agent, as our Mover of the Month forIMG_9287-min.jpg September!

Based in Illinois, MiniMoves - Chicago has been partnered with Move For Hunger since August 2014. They’ve assisted us in transporting over 18,000 lbs of food, providing more than 15,000 meals to communities in need!

This past summer, MiniMoves - Chicago assisted with the JLL Midwest Fights Summer Hunger Food Drive & Fundraiser 2022. Nearly 550 lbs, equalling over 450 meals, were collected from the event and transported to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. We cannot thank MiniMoves enough for their help with this event, as well as all of the incredible work they’ve done with us the past eight years!

With over 1 million people in Illinois food insecure, including 1 in 9 children, we appreciate all of the amazing work being done by MiniMoves - Chicago for their community.

Congratulations to MiniMoves - Chicago on being named September 2022’s Mover of the Month! We thank you so much for your years of commitment and support in fighting hunger! If you are a mover and would like to make a difference in the communities you serve, consider joining the Move For Hunger network!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
