Humboldt Moving & Storage Gives Back in a Big Way, Naming them Mover of the Month

January 19, 2023

Each month, Move For Hunger highlights a moving company that has gone above and beyond with their work to fight against hunger. For December, Humboldt Moving & Storage was awarded the honor for their hard work over the holiday season.

Over Thanksgiving, the Bristol Lodge Food Pantry, in Massachusetts, was in need of food ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday for their food insecure communities. After learning of their need, Humboldt Storage & Moving donated 2,425lbs of food, equalling 2,000 meals, collected from their Thanksgiving food drive to the pantry.Humboldt Storage & Moving Fall Harvest Food Drive 2022-3.jpg

But they didn't stop there! Jim Sullivan, the President of Humboldt Moving & Storage, and his family volunteered their time to help distribute the food the Saturday before Thanksgiving with the mobile market.

“Humboldt has a long history of creating meaningful partnerships that benefit members of our community,” says Jim Sullivan, president of Humboldt Storage and Moving. “We have been very successful in mobilizing the resources of our moving company here in Boston to make an impact for those in need as well as the people we serve.”

“Working with Move for Hunger on our recent food drive was the perfect fit. Because of our extensive network here in Boston which includes many real estate professionals, we were able to tap into other motivated organizations and individuals to make a significant impact this year when we feel the need for basic food items has increased."

In Massachusetts, nearly 500,000 people are food insecure, including 1 in 11 children. Every donation transport our network makes helps put food on the table for families who don’t have enough.

Congratulations to Humboldt Moving and Storage on being named December 2022’s Mover of the Month! If you are a mover and would like to make a difference in the communities you serve, consider joining the Move For Hunger network.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
