Hansen Bros Dedicated to Ensure Residents the Opportunity to Donate when Moving

June 13, 2023

Each month, Move For Hunger highlights a moving company that has gone above and beyond with their work to fight against hunger. For May, we’re excited to announce that Hansen Bros. Moving & Storage is our Mover of the Month!

In just this year alone, Hansen Bros. has transported 585 meals! The team is always up to the task to transport donations from apartments to food banks.

Hansen Bros. is one of the oldest moving and storage companies in Washington State. The company teamed up with Move For Hunger in 2012 and has transported over 45,000 lbs of food, providing over 37,000 meals to the state of Washington.

"We believe supporting community members experiencing food insecurity is one of the most meaningful ways we can give back and our partnership with Move For Hunger has been an amazing means of achieving this goal.”
- Alan and Eric of Hansen Bros

“We find that our shippers, crew members, OTR Drivers, and office staff all share in the positive energy generated by these efforts. Given the current economic uncertainties, it’s more important than ever to support the communities that sustain us and we appreciate the remarkable work of the Move For Hunger Team. We’re thrilled to have been chosen Mover of the Month and look forward to many more months and years in partnership with Move For Hunger," continued Alan and Eric.

The team at Hansen Bros is dedicated to our multifamily program and helps to ensure that residents have the opportunity to donate when moving.

Nearly 700,000 people in the state of Washington face food insecurity as of 2021, including 198,000 children. Every donation our network makes helps put food on the table for families who don’t have enough.

Congratulations Hansen Bros. Moving and Storage for being our May 2023’s Mover of the Month! If you are a mover and would like to make a difference in the communities you serve, consider joining the Move For Hunger network!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
