Graebel Companies Named Hunger Fighting Hero after moving 20,000 miles to provide 65,000 meals to communities in need

November 14, 2022

In 2022, Move For Hunger created a new award to showcase our hunger fighting heroes in a new light! The Hunger Fighting Champion Award is a quarterly award given to a Move For Hunger partner who has gone above and beyond in the fight against hunger.

For the third quarter of 2022, Move For Hunger awarded for their long-standing commitment to the fight against food insecurity through their dedicated partnership with Move For Hunger!

Graebel joined Move For Hunger as a partner in 2016 and continues to be an active partner by hosting their second month-long Move 2 FightGraebel Move 2 Fight Hunger Challenge (Mountain) Hunger Challenge for their employees during Hunger Action Month. There were more than 430 Graebel employees across 14 countries who moved 20,000 miles through exercise, which assisted in providing 65,000 meals to food banks and those facing hunger.

The virtual activity challenge encourages participants to do any activity they enjoyed - like dancing, running, walking their dog, gardening, knitting, or even cooking. The activities are then translated into meals for food insecure communities. The Move 2 Fight Hunger Challenge is a great way for companies to enable their employees and give back to their communities, especially the 11 million children that face hunger every day.

Through the support of partners like Graebel, Move For Hunger can continue to fight for the families, individuals, and children most in need of food assistance. Want to join the fight against hunger? Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
