Move For Hunger has some great news! We are a recipient of an Airbnb Community Fund grant, which were created to share the company’s success and strengthen communities around the world that Airbnb Hosts call home. Over the next decade, the Airbnb Community Fund will provide $100 million to support organizations around the globe working to help their communities. This year’s inaugural 150 recipients are doing work to support education, economic empowerment, and those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since beginning in 2007, the Airbnb community has grown to 4 million Hosts who have welcomed more than 900 million guest arrivals. Airbnb worked with its Host community to determine how to direct grants. They received feedback from their Host Advisory Board to identify this years issues of focus. Additionally, the Host Advisory Board worked with GlobalGiving, Airbnb’s partner, to help create a list of organizations working on such areas, which were then presented to Airbnb Host Clubs around the world to be voted on.
Hunger is a persistent issue and in 2019, over 35,200,000 people faced food insecurity in the United States. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of individuals increased to 42 million. Thus, the grant came at a much-needed time.
This is the first time Airbnb is working with Move For Hunger and we appreciate their support. As part of the COVID Relief Efforts, last year GlobalGiving awarded Move For Hunger a $30,000 grant that helped provide nearly 76,000 meals.
The support from the Airbnb Community Fund and GlobalGiving will allow us to continue to help communities facing food insecurity with 126,500 meals.
