Gexpro Provides 16,205 Meals to Food Insecure Communities with the Move 2 Fight Hunger Challenge

December 6, 2021

Throughout September and October, Gexpro joined Move For Hunger in the Move 2 Fight Hunger Challenge, providing over 16,000 meals togexpro_cdavis 10 (1).jpg  those in need!

Gexpro, a world-class supply chain services outsource provider, had 41 employees participate in the challenge, with over 2,400 miles (over 3,900km) moved! The Move 2 Fight Hunger challenge is a virtual competition that encourages participants to get active through running, walking, biking, cooking, dancing, and more! From September 7 to October 21, each mile moved by the participants translated into meals provided.

“Gexpro Services was proud to partner with Move for Hunger this fall. The opportunity to couple a movement challenge with giving back was a fun and motivating partnership for our employees,” said Laura McConnell, Global HR Director for Gexpro. “Food insecurity is a cause we are passionate about as a business, especially considering the impact COVID-19 closures had on   countless Americans’ access to food. Thank you to Move for Hunger for the important work you do!”

gexpro_jessrenenorrisgmailcom 26.jpgIn America, over 42 million people are food insecure and 13 million children don’t know where their next meal will come from. COVID has only intensified the issue, impacting the 29 million children who relied on free/reduced cost meals at school to eat, the almost 9 million food-insecure seniors, the 500,000 homeless individuals, and the hundreds of thousands of Americans who lost their jobs.

This event was Gexpro's first with Move For Hunger, and we look forward to future collaborations. We’re thankful for companies like Gexpro and their support in helping feed local communities in need!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
