FPI Management Donates Over 6,000 Meals through the Virtual Wellness Event Fundraiser

November 16, 2020

Even when we’re social distancing, there are still ways to raise money to fight hunger. At least that’s the mindset FPI Management had.

This summer the Alliance property organized a Virtual Wellness Event to encourage its employees and supporters to get out and literally “move” for hunger. What counts as moving? Pretty much anything that you can do at your home or outside (at a safe social distance) counted -  yoga, stretch, lift weights, take part in a virtual bootcamp or zumba class. Employees could also go outside for a run, ride your bike, hike a local trail, or take a walk with your dog!

FPI was excited to encourage our communities to participate in the virtual fundraiser this year!” says Kyle Lehman, Regional Marketing and Social Media Management. “Move For Hunger was a positive way to continue to support our national partnership with MFH to continue to help those in need and help our staff feel connected to each other even with working from home.”

“Many of our employees enjoyed ‘moving’ for hunger and found ways inside and outside of the home to participate! Some participants ran on their treadmills or rode their Peloton bikes while others took trail hikes or walking through their neighborhoods. We loved seeing all of their pictures shared on our Facebook page on how they got moving!

The team was also encouraged to donate to their fundraiser hosted on GoFundMe. With a $25 donation, participants received a Move For Hunger medal, a Facebook Frame, and a downloadable certificate. If someone donated $35 or more, they also received a Move For Hunger T-Shirt.

“Move For Hunger has been one of FPI's national give back campaigns for the last 3 years. During this time we have been able to help provide food to those in need within local communities by empowering our staff and residents to contribute to donation efforts. We absolutely love the work that this organization does and the partnership that we have built. The cause and all of the people working behind the scenes are truly inspiring and amazing!”

Their fundraiser raised over $2,500 which will provide 6,450 meals. Thanks for being such an amazing partner, FPI Management.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
