A big thank you to our participants for dedicating your time, energy, and positivity to our 2024 Move To Fight Hunger Challenge! To our donors - we truly couldn’t make this happen without you! We’re so grateful to our community and that we're able to put more food on the table for those facing food insecurity in our communities across the nation.
- Meagan O'Malley, Special Events and Engagement Manager

We encouraged participants to do an activity they enjoy such as dancing, running, walking their dog, yoga, or to try something new. Within the MoveSpring app, users viewed leaderboards and posted selfies while participating in a variety of activities.

Participants from all over engaged in some friendly competition while helping us in the fight against hunger! This year we had over 50 teams sign up for the challenge. Congratulations to all of the teams and individuals who made it onto the final leaderboard!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
