Dodge Moving and Storage Does a ‘Trucking’ Good Job Transporting Over 6,000 Meals, Awarding them Mover of the Month

April 12, 2022

Each month, we recognize one of our outstanding movers for going above and beyond in the fight against hunger. For March, Dodge Moving and Storage won that honor for providing over 6,000 meals to local food insecure communities.

Located in Missouri, the Mayflower Van Lines agent transported over 7,200 lbs from the ArCANtecture event at the Unigroup Conference in early March. The donations were delivered to the St. Louis Area Food Bank.

ArCANtecture is a team building event hosted by Move For Hunger, where employees of an organization create buildings out of cans of food. These structures are judged based on creativity, the amount of food used, and the stability of the design. The winning team receives medals and secures bragging rights for the rest of the year! The food used to create the structures is then donated to a food bank of the winning team’s choice!

Dodge Moving and Storage has been part of the Move For Hunger network since 2014, and has helped collect and transport more than 15,700DodgeMovingandStorage lbs of donations to local food banks and pantries. That will provide over 13,100 meals! They participate in the fight against hunger through donations transports, as well as hosting their own food drives! Their Thanksgiving Food Drive collected nearly 1,250 lbs of food for those in need.

“We were motivated to join the Move For Hunger network based on the high need we see for those struggling to support themselves, and their families, for a basic necessity of putting food on their table,” said Barb Willbrand, Director of Office Administration.

“It is especially important to give back to others right now due to the inflation increase in our economy in 2022. Community outreach and charity support is very important to the Dodge Team. We enjoy the comradery this allows us to experience as a team, and the satisfaction we feel when we know we have made a difference with our efforts.”

We are so thankful for Dodge Moving and Storage and their dedication to fighting hunger, especially since over 800,000 people are food insecure in Missouri. Congratulations on being named Mover of the Month for March!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
