Crown Relocations ‘crowned’ Mover of the Month with keto chocolate recovery

March 7, 2022

Each month, Move For Hunger highlights one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. This month, Crown Relocations won our hearts for their support recovering over 4,000lbs of keto chocolate on February 15th!

Crown Relocations, an agent for Crown Worldwide Group, is a fantastic contributor in the fight against hunger! Since joining our network in 2010, the New York City-based relocation company has collected and transported nearly 400,000lbs of donations, equalling over 325,000 meals for food insecure families and individuals.

In 2022 alone, Crown Relocation has already transported over 12,000lbs by transporting food donations every month from the Community Food Bank of New Jersey to the Heaven’s Helpers Food Pantry. They have been participating in this monthly transport for over a year, and we couldn’t be more thankful for their dedication!

“The Staff at Crown are amazing when it comes to reaching out and lending a hand to those in need, we put ourselves out there when we have the availability to do for others, and many times we’ll squeeze in some time to help out,” said Richie Estrella, Operations Manager with Crown Relocations. “I believe it’s always good to give back, to help out others in need, not everyone is fortunate to make it or had the guidance to find the right path in life, and some have had some tragic things happen in their life and it’s hurt them in many ways, financially and mentally. I feel good when I can help out where I could along the way in life. There are many many many that need it.”

In the state of New York, over 2 million residents are considered food insecure, but over half of those residents live in New York City. We are so thankful for Crown Relocations and everyone else in our network for joining us in the fight against hunger! We couldn’t do it without you!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
