Crabtree Family Moving & Storage Hosts Fill A Truck Food Drive And Fundraiser

July 12, 2022

Crabtree Family Moving & Storage, based out of Raleigh, North Carolina, hosted a fill-a-truck food drive and fundraiser that raised 8,100 lbs of food!

Move For Hunger’s fill a truck food drives work like this: we set up a moving truck in the parking lot of a grocery store and challenge the community to donate enough non-perishable items to fill the entire trailer.

The fill a truck food drive event that Crabtree Family Moving & Storage hosted started at the end of April and ended in mid-May. During this time of a little over a week, multiple local movers, businesses, and other non-profit organizations got involved by participating or donating to the food drive!

This was Crabtree Family Moving & Storage's first event with Move For Hunger, and they started strong! With the food collected from the fill a truck food drive, they could provide 6,750 meals!

The food drive was held at Crabtree Family Moving & Storage office but ended at a local brewery. We appreciate it when local businesses participate in efforts to end hunger! Crabtree Family Moving & Storage Fill A Truck Food Drive 20221.jpg

The donated food was transported to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. With Over 1,417,440 food insecure individuals in the state of North Carolina, every effort counts!

We’re unbelievably thankful for Crabtree Family Moving & Storage's efforts to help in our fight against hunger. If you’re interested in making an impact, you can host a food drive with Move For Hunger or become a monthly donor!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
