CORT's Thanksgiving Food Drive Fills Plates and Hearts Across the Nation

December 18, 2023

One of our incredible partners, CORT, has once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to making a difference in their communities through their Thanksgiving Food Drive. This year's results have left us in awe, showcasing the power of collective action and the impact that can be achieved when individuals and organizations come together for a common cause.

This Thanksgiving, CORT offices from coast to coast rallied together to collect an impressive total of 6,295 pounds of food. These efforts were not just limited to a single location but spanned over 30 locations across the country. The result? More than 8,500 meals provided to those in need during a time when gratitude and abundance are meant to be shared.

These contributions, both large and small, came together to create a powerful impact on communities nationwide. Each pound of food collected represents a meal provided to someone who may have otherwise gone hungry during the holiday season.

Some of the notable contributors from CORT's Thanksgiving Food Drive and the respective food banks they supported:

  • CORT Las Vegas (893 lbs): Provided over 740 meals to Three Square Food Bank.
  • CORT Connecticut (685 lbs): Provided over 570 meals Connecticut Foodshare.
  • CORT Corporate (658 lbs): Provided over 545 meals to Fauquier FISH Food Pantry
  • CORT Kansas City (503 lbs): Provided nearly 420 meals to New Hope Food Pantry.
  • CORT Knoxville (441 lbs): Provided over 365 meals to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
  • CORT Kalamazoo (395 lbs): Provided nearly 330 meals to Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.
  • CORT Seattle (347 lbs): Provided over 285 meals to Northwest Harvest - Western Washington.

These contributions from CORT made a significant impact in their respective regions, ensuring that local food banks have the resources to provide meals to those in need. Their efforts reflect CORT's dedication to making a difference and their commitment to addressing food insecurity in communities across the United States.

Move For Hunger has been honored to partner with CORT since 2021, and the results of this year's Thanksgiving Food Drive have only reinforced the positive impact of our collaboration. Together, we have been able to provide over 1 million meals to those facing food insecurity in the past two years.

CORT's Thanksgiving Food Drive is a shining example of how businesses can use their resources and influence to give back to their communities. Their commitment to fighting hunger and reducing food waste embodies the spirit of the holiday season, reminding us all of the importance of helping those in need.

As we express our gratitude for CORT and all our partners, we also extend our thanks to everyone who contributed to this remarkable food drive. It is through collective efforts like these that we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of countless individuals and families across the nation.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
