Spread the Love to our Community of the Month for March, Parkstone at Knightdale!

April 6, 2021

Although 2021 continues to be a year of challenges, each of these hurdles is easier to face with help from our incredible multi-family network! Due to their fantastic Spread the Love Event last month, we are pleased to award our Community of the Month for March to the Parkstone At Knightdale community!

The Spread the Love campaign is all about benefiting those experiencing food insecurity by donating the perfect pair of nonperishables, peanut butter and jelly.

The Parkstone At Knightdale, a Bell Partners property, donated 324 lbs. of food, which is 270 meals through their first food drive with Move For Hunger! Fincor Construction transported this sizeable donation to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.

"At Bell Partners, we care about serving our residents and our community," Community Manager Keli Cave said. "Our promise of 'We Care. We Deliver' encourages us to take every opportunity that we can to help one another."

The help that companies like Bell Partners provide and donations from the properties they manage are instrumental in aiding their local communities.

Knightdale is in Wake County near Raleigh, North Carolina, which has a food insecurity rate of 10.4%. Throughout North Carolina, there is one in seven people going hungry, in addition to the one in five children that deal with food scarcity daily.

We are proud to be partnered with the Parkstone At Knightdale, and we commend their commitment to giving back to those in need in their area.

If you want to aid your local community as our incredible community of the month did, then get involved by hosting a food drive, fundraiser, or donate!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
