Coleman Worldwide Moving Recognized as Mover of the Month for February 2023

March 16, 2023

Every month, Move For Hunger recognizes a moving company that has exceeded our expectations. For this February, we are celebrating Coleman Worldwide Moving for being the second Mover of the Month of 2023!

Coleman Worldwide Moving is the Washington D.C. branch of Coleman World Group, and is an agent with Allied. This past month, Coleman Worldwide Moving stepped up to the plate by doing three donation pickups for our multifamily program. These 3 pickups provided nearly 250lbs of donations, providing over 200 meals for those in Woodbridge!

"We are humbled and honored to participate in Move For Hunger," explained General Manager, Charles Sullivan. “It’s a small token of our gratitude to do our part to help provide meals to those in need in and around the District of Columbia. Coleman associates and our customers play a big part in giving back to the communities in which we live and serve.”

Since 2012, Coleman Worldwide Moving has been one of our members and we are grateful for their continued support. In these past few years, Coleman Worldwide Moving has recovered over 4,400lbs of food, which is more than 3,600 meals for those in need! Sullivan states, “Our company motto ‘We Help Move Lives Forward’ aligns perfectly with Move For Hunger’s mission.”

In Virginia, the number of adults who struggle with food insecurity has surpassed 650,000, including 180,000 children who are food insecure. Every donation helps provide food to those in need.

Congratulations to Coleman Worldwide Moving on being our February 2023’s Mover of the Month! If you are a mover and want to make a difference, please consider becoming a member of our Move For Hunger network.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
