Budd Van Lines starts 2022 with a bang, transporting more than 1,500 meals in January, making them Mover of the Month!

February 10, 2022

We like to move it, move it - food donations, that is! We wouldn’t be able to make our impact as big as we do without our mover network. That’s why, each month, Move For Hunger chooses a moving company that has done an awesome job in the fight against hunger and names them Mover of the Month. For January, Budd Van Lines- South-Central Branch has been named our Mover of the Month!

Budd Van Lines, located in Irving, Texas, started 2022 with a bang by coming through to transport nearly 2,000lbs of donations from seven different locations throughout north Texas. This will provide more than 1,500 meals to food insecure families and individuals throughout Texas.

The van line has been part of Move For Hunger’s mover network since 2014, and has donated and transported more than 3,800lbs of food, equalling more than 3,200 meals, to local food banks and pantries.

“Joining the Move For Hunger mover network was a great opportunity to help those in need with what others are willing to give,” said Linda Rodriguez, General Manager of Budd Van Lines - Texas Branch. “It’s a great program, and I can honestly say we don’t really know how much we accumulate in our pantries until it’s time to move.”

We’re thankful for Budd Van Lines and their dedication to fighting hunger, especially since more than 4 million people are food insecure in Texas. In North Texas alone, over 650,000 people are food insecure, so every donation counts!

Congratulations to Budd Van Lines on being named January’s Mover of the Month! If you’re interested in joining the Move For Hunger network, make sure to check out our MultiFamily and Mover sign-up pages!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
