As one of Central Arkansas's leading residential and commercial moving services, Brandon Moving & Storage, a Bekins agent, is no stranger to the food drive scene. Brandon Moving & Storage has been a proud member of the Move For Hunger network since 2013, and to date has helped to donate almost 13,800 pounds of food -- enough to provide nearly 11,500 meals!
Brandon Moving & Storage's most recent food drive was a Fill-A-Truck style drive held at the Price Cutter Food Warehouse of Conway, Arkansas on June 3. Shoppers were encouraged to fill the moving truck with non-perishable food donations such as peanut butter, rice, pasta, canned tuna and canned fruits/vegetables. This particular drive was an immense success and led to the collection of 1,200 pounds of food -- which is enough to provide 1,000 meals!
In an effort to help the over 20,000 people struggling with food insecurity in Faulkner County, Arkansas, 1 in 5 of which are children, Brandon Moving & Storage will personally deliver all 1,200 pounds of food to the Community Action Program for Central Arkansas.
To Brandon Moving & Storage, fighting hunger is something that the company is passionate about. In February they hosted a food drive at their office in North Little Rock, and were able to collect 960 pounds of food for the Northside Church of Christ Food Pantry. In March, Brandon Moving & Storage collected nearly 1,500 pounds of food for the Choctaw Food Bank during a Fill-A-Truck event held at a local Walmart. And the list of food drives goes on....
Don Henson, one of the co-owners of Brandon Moving & Storage, knows the reality of hunger all too well. As a child, Henson and his five other siblings along with their single mother went to food pantries but were often told that there were not enough resources to meet their needs. Since Henson was exposed to hunger at a young age, he has made sure to adopt a lifestyle in which he prioritizes giving back, which is one of the reasons that Brandon Moving & Storage has spearheaded so many food drives over the years.
Henson feels that food drives are "very humbling" and "the interaction with people in front of stores and hearing about struggles or seeing others compassion is priceless." To Henson, the whole process of a food drive, from the event itself to dropping off the donations at the pantry, is extremely fulfilling. As Henson puts it, "Cheerful givers and cheerful receivers, what could be better? "
