Brandon Moving and Storage, does the name sound familiar? Here at our offices, Brandon Moving and Storage is the topic of conversation rather frequently, as they continue to blow us away with their dedication to fighting hunger in Arkansas. In fact, Brandon Moving and Storage, a Bekins agent, has hosted not one, not two, but FIVE food drives so far in 2017! As always, their most recent food drive, a Fill-A-Truck style event held at a local Walmart on June 24, was an immense success!
The moving company was able to collect 750 pounds of food, which is equal to 625 meals! Brandon Moving and Storage also received more than $1,000 in cash donations, and they donated that money to the Choctaw Food Bank, which used the cash to purchase more than 6,000 pounds of food. So, in total, the food drive brought in a total of 7,350 pounds of food, enough to provide more than 6,130 meals to those in need!
Clinton, Arkansas native and co-owner of Brandon Moving & Storage, Don Henson, says that the people of Clinton know how far a monetary donation can stretch, so they chose to not only donate non-perishable items but out-of-pocket, as well. Even though Clinton is made up of less than 3,000 people and part of a county of only 17,000 people, Henson wasn't even shocked by the outpour of support from the community. In fact, he says that "the town always comes together and helps one another" and that "they do not forget when others help them." Henson also noted that "lots of the donations come from people that have been helped by the Choctaw Pantry" showing that a little compassion and charity go a long way in Clinton.
Participating in the fight against hunger is something that Don Henson and his employees are extremely passionate about. To them, "success isn't measured by raising food or a certain quantity, success comes from knowing that others are being helped." Henson continues to be inspired by each and every food drive and says that while "you can find negative everywhere you turn, witnessing this positive in so many aspects has proven to be one of the most heart touching events of my life."
We've said it once and we will say it again, thank you so much Don Henson and everyone at Brandon Moving & Storage for your dedication and selfless devotion to fighting hunger! Your continued efforts are crucial to helping the nearly 3,000 people struggling with food insecurity in Van Buren County.
