Bekins Moving Solutions shines with a delivery of over 20,000 meals, making them the mover of the month

May 12, 2022

Each month, we recognize one of our outstanding movers for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. Their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. For April, this month's title goes to Bekins Moving Solutions in Tucson, Arizona.

A division of Bekins A-1 Movers in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, Bekins Moving Solutions - Tucson has been working with Move for Hunger since 2014. Bekins Moving Solutions has transported 25,995 meals in 2022, and have already collected 1,970 lbs of food which is equal to 1,642 meals.

Throughout the month of April, they transported food donations from 10 separate properties to different local food banks in their area. One of those trips was a transportation of about 335 lbs of donations, providing more than 275 meals to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona Main Branch. From that trip, Bekins Moving Solutions in Tucson delivered around 335 pounds of nourishments - 279 meals. These transports were part of the MC Companies Spring into Action Food Drives to help relieve hunger in their local communities.

“We have always supported Mover for Hunger as much as we can. To dedicate a lifetime with the goal of delivering hot meals to people & families in need that cannot make ends meet just to feed themselves and/or families is the kind of organization we would always support,” said Eric Anderson, General Manager of Bekins Moving Solutions. “In a world full of animosity, we want to spread positivity & see the joy on people's faces after seeing the work we did help so many in need.”

Feeding America projects that 42 million people (1 in 8), including 13 million children (1 in 6), experienced food insecurity in 2021. More than 900,000 people are food insecure in the state of Arizona. Thanks so much to Bekins Moving Solution for recovering this food that would otherwise go to waste, and transporting it to people in need!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
