Bay Area Truck Pull Provides Over 150,000 Meals to Those In Need

September 29, 2022

As part of Hunger Action Month throughout September, Ace Relocation Systems, Relocity, and Move For Hunger worked together to host the first 2022 Bay Area Truck Pull on September 14, our most successful Truck Pull ever!

This event was hosted at the USS Hornet - Sea, Air, and Space Museum in Alameda, CA, creating an incredible backdrop for a full day of pulling trucks, eating great food, and meeting new people!

The event raised $60,000 for food insecure communities across the United States, providing more than 150,000 meals to those in need.

During a truck pull, teams of about 10 people pull a rope attached to a moving truck 100 feet across the finish line. Whichever team is able to pull the truck in the quickest time is crowned the Truck Pull Champion and wins an awesome trophy!

The winning team of the truck pull was the NOR-CAL Moving Services Team with an incredible time of 26.34 seconds. Second place went to the Rocket Mortgage Team with a 26.41 second time, and third place was the Interconnex Team at 27.75 seconds!

“Everything about this event was incredible. From the USS Hornet as the backdrop, to the sponsors of the event, to the people I met throughout the day,” said Adam Lowy, Founder and Executive Director of Move For Hunger. “We can’t thank our sponsors enough for making this truck pull happen.”

As part of the event, Love + Relo, a talk show in the relocation and global mobility space, live streamed the truck pull in support of the Hunger Action Month campaign! Hosted by Ben Cross, the live stream allowed viewers from across the country to participate in this unique event.

A huge thank you to all of our sponsors of this event, starting with our title sponsors Ace Relocation and Relocity, our host venue, The USS Hornet, and Interconnex, SuiteAmerica, Suite Home Corporate Housing, TWW (Transportation Worldwide), ENVOY Global, LOVE AND RELO/GLOMO, MSS (Movers Specialty Services), Aires, Rocket Mortgage, Erickson Immigration Group, Paramount Transportation Systems, The Pasha Group, Planes, Daryl Flood-Suddath, NOR-CAL Moving Services, Champion, New World Van Lines, The Right Move Group, Altair Global, and Churchill Living.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
