Apex Moving + Storage Named July 2023 Mover of the Month

August 8, 2023

Every month, Move For Hunger recognizes a moving company that has exceeded our expectations. For the month of July, we are celebrating Apex Moving + Storage as our Mover of the Month!

Apex Moving + Storage has been consistently working with Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to organize and deliver food each month. So far this year, they have delivered over 170,000 pounds of food, resulting in more than 140,000 meals!

Apex Moving + Storage has been serving the residents of Middle Tennessee for over 50 years!

Apex Moving + Storage is a third generation moving family. After the Great Depression, Mark’s father found himself struggling to find food and shelter and struggling to make ends meet. As the story goes, he made it a mission of his to ensure his kids, his family, his community, and his employees would never endure the troubles he went through. Mark Duke has always believed in giving back the same way, and helping his community, friends, and family. Working with Move for Hunger is a wonderful way that Apex can help carry on the beliefs the Duke/Apex Family has had for generations.

The world is rapidly offering new challenges around every corner. But taking care of people and helping people, just a little each day, is a core belief for the Apex family. It should never be a challenge for us to help one another, and we love the fact that we can work with our customers, crews, and trucks to give back a little bit each day.
Apex is very proud to work with Move for Hunger. Mover for Hunger helps us be a better company and helps us think outside the box on what we can do to help more.
- Zachary Stephenson, General Manager

Apex Moving + Storage has been part of our network since 2011, and we are grateful for their continued support. Since joining the Move For Hunger team, Apex Moving + Storage has delivered over 2 million pounds of food - that’s over 1.6 million meals!

Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee helps provide food to the 250,000 food-insecure people in middle Tennessee. Every donation helps provide for those in need.

Congratulations to Apex Moving + Storage on being our July 2023’s Mover of the Month! If you are a mover and want to make a difference, please consider joining our Move For Hunger network.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
