AMLI Spanish Hills Tops the Leaderboard in Donations, and is Awarded Community of the Month for July 2022!

August 10, 2022

Every month, Move For Hunger recognizes a community that has gone above and beyond in the fight against hunger. This July, we are thrilled to announce AMLI Spanish Hills as Move For Hunger’s Community of the Month!

Located in Camarillo, California and an agent of AMLI Management Company, AMLI Spanish Hills joined the Move For Hunger team in 2022. In their short time as part of the Move For Hunger network, AMLI Spanish Hills has already made a positive impact in their community by taking initiative and putting in the work to stop hunger!

Since January 2022, AMLI Spanish Hills has collected over 380 lbs of food through their Spring Into Action food drive and 100 Can Challenge. Throughout these two initiatives and beyond, this extraordinary multi-family community continues to support their neighbors and families in need by joining the fight against hunger movement! Out of more than 2,500 multi-family communities in the Move For Hunger network, AMLI Spanish Hills has collected the most food throughout the month of July! Way to go!

"We have loved working with Move for Hunger! These food drives are so important, it gives us a chance to come together as a community and help each other,” said Heather Diem, Leasing Agent for AMLI Spanish Hills. “With what has been going on in the world these past few years, community support systems are needed now more than ever."

We are so grateful for AMLI Spanish Hills and all of the AMLI Communities who continue to help feed the hungry and fill the pantries of those in need! Keep rockin’ it!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
