All-Ways Moving & Storage and Move For Hunger Fight Food Insecurity with Continued Collaboration

September 16, 2022

For the second year in a row, All-Ways Moving & Storage has partnered with Move For Hunger to help bring perishable and non-perishable foods to the Laguna Beach Food Pantry weekly since June 2021. So far this year, their commitment to their community has helped produce almost 70,000 meals to hungry people and families.

Nearly every week since the initial transport, All-Ways Moving has transported food from Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County to the Laguna Food Pantry. Since last year, All-Ways Moving has transported over 175,000 meals, or 210,000 lbs, to feed hungry families in California.

“We at All-Ways Moving & Storage are a family-run business that feels as if it’s our duty to take part in helping make our community a better place,” said Parker Harvey, a Sales Consultant at All-Ways Moving & Storage.“Being able to partner up with great companies like Move For Hunger and the Laguna Beach Food Pantry have given us the resources to help those in need and make us feel as though we are truly making a small dent in the fight against hunger.”

All-Ways Moving and Storage joined the Move For Hunger network in 2015. Based in Laguna Hills, California, their long-standing partnership with Move For Hunger has been phenomenal. Since joining the network over 7 years ago, they have transported more than 280,500 lbs of food, providing almost 234,000 meals to those in need. While 234,000 meals is A LOT, there is still a long way to go in the fight against hunger. In California, over 3.5 million people are considered food insecure.

From its founding in 2009 Move For Hunger has revolutionized the moving industry in efforts to reduce food waste and end hunger. The organization's founder, Adam Lowy, was working for his family's moving company and he saw the potential of how transportation and moving companies could be utilized and the potential to feed a lot of people. This is why Move For Hunger exists today. By collaborating with moving companies across the country, and Canada, with the commitment to help fight hunger in their community, we can do a whole lot of good.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
