All-Ways Moving and Girls with Goals Host Food Drive

July 28, 2020

It’s been a busy summer for Kate Giddings, a student in Laguna Niguel, California. Kate is part of a local non-profit called Girls with Goals. Girls with Goals is a growing community of women helping, encouraging, and celebrating each other as they work toward their personal and professional goals.

GirlsWithGoalsSpreadTHeLoveFoodDrive2020.JPGKate and her friends from Girls for Goals decided to host a Spread The Love Food Drive to benefit a local church. Their food drive was a huge success, collecting over 350 jars of peanut butter & jelly.

Our moving partner All-Ways Moving & Storage, a National Van Lines agent, joined in to help transport all of the boxes to their local church, Saint Killians. Their pantry has been accepting food donations during the COVID-19 pandemic

Food drives like these mean a lot during these unprecedented times. Unfortunately, over 267,000 people in Orange County are food insecure. By Girls with Goals and All-Ways Moving & Storage partnering together they have provided over 291 meals to those in need. We cannot thank Kate enough for taking the initiative to make a difference in her local community.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has left a massive economic impact and has drastically increased the need for emergency food assistance nationwide. Move For Hunger is actively searching for ways to meet the demand, but we're going to need your help.

If you can, please consider making a donation to Move For Hunger. With your support, we'll be able to rapidly respond and mobilize our network in communities across the United States and Canada.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
